The nice thing is, is that the software updates usually fix the issues but sometimes do need a complete module if it becomes corrupt.***JUST REDUCED***, CRUISE CONTROL, KEYLESS ENTRY, POWER LOCKS, POWER WINDOWS, BLUETOOTH, HANDS-FREE, STABILITY CONTROL. The FlexRay systems (I don't know if GM uses this yet or not) seem a little more robust as well as a little easier to diagnose. The CAN systems can also be taken down quite easily. Little glitches can cause messages to be missed or even interpreted wrong. With cars today, the electrical gremlins can cause a lot of crazy stuff to happen that may seem completely unrelated. Talk about being upset as I quickly realized how much the HMI controls, basically everything except the IC and HVAC. It took nearly 7 weeks to get a new module in and I finally got it replaced Tuesday, October 4th. It took a few days for them to get permission all to find out that the module was on backorder (hence there may be an issue as the tech informed me the Cadillac CUE module is now on backorder too). They had to go through all the steps before they were given permission to order a new module (which I fully understand as I was a Mercedes-Benz Master Tech until I had to relocate back to Kansas). The dealer tried to reprogram but it would not accept the software. Mine was due to the HMI (Human Machine Interface) module taking a dump and losing coding. My screen went black at 893 miles on the odometer.

So if you have a newer truck that has the software update and you have recently filled your def tank or washed under the hood.dry out under the hood and see if it goes away.

I believe that either:ġ) software freaked out when the def tank sent an updated full signal.probably unlikelyĢ) although I used minimal water, I did lightly with emphasis on lightly, flushed the area with water where I filled the tank in case I spilled anything I didn't notice.most likely cause So I monitored this over the next week to see if it would hasn't to date. In my situation I found it odd that although only a couple months old, this had never occurred in the previous 4,000 miles but happened 4 times back to back after I filled my def tank. In my former years as a tech, I always found that if you could trace back the most recent work performed on a vehicle it more often than not was correlated to a new issue. So I wanted to attempt to diagnose myself first. I was reluctant to do so as I didn't want them ripping into my new truck and end up with rattles, missing screws, ill fitting interior, etc.

He suggested scheduling a visit to the dealer. He checked my vin and sure enough I should already have it. On my way home I contacted onstar who indicated this was a known issue that is usually fixed via a software update, but seeing my truck was relatively new felt I already had the newer version. One guy I saw posted that he called onstar and they were able to push an update that seemed to rectify the issue. While at the restaurant, I looked through this forum and found people experienced the same issue with multiple causes and some to never be found. I was pissed as the truck is only two months old with 4,000 miles. Thought I'd post up what I feel might be a possible cause for infotainment screens going black on 2016 2500s.Ī little over a week ago I experienced my screen going black 4 times in a row over a 20 minute period with a stop/start in the middle of the drive.
